Champion Dandies

Champion Dandies"Blacket House Yet" and "Ancrum Fanny".

Arthur Wardle 1897 [signed and dated in plate.]
Published by Art Engraving Department, Spratts Patent Limited, London E.C.3. 1924.
Photogravure on india laid paper, 445 x 525mm. 17½ x 20¾". A good impression with full margins. Slight Printer's crease on left.
Two Dandie Dinmont terriers. The breed is named after Dandie Dinmont, a jovial farmer in Sir Walter Scott's novel Guy Mannering. Arthur Wardle (British, 1864 -1949) was a prolific and very talented late nineteenth century artist who created an extraordinary body of work, yet surprisingly little has been written about him. Known by some as a painter of big game and wildlife, he is for dog lovers one of the pre-eminent painters of pure bred dogs that England has produced.
