An old Skye terrier given to the Queen by H.R.H. Prince Albert, on May 24.th 1842. The name Dandie Dinmont came from a character in Sir Walter Scott's 'Guy Mannering', this name was later given to the breed of dog now known as Dandie dinmonts. The original picture belongs to Her Majesty the Queen, and hangs at Osborne. Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1854. From "Her Majesty's Pets being a Collection of Twenty Steel-Place Engravings from Paintings by Sir Edwin Landseer, R.A. By Special Permission of, and Dedicated to Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen".
