Outside a temple; arab men and travellers sit, a laden donkey in the centre waiting. Roger Jouanneau Irriera (1884-1957) was a French soldier who served during the Second World War. In the 1920s he spent time in Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt and the Sudan. He later lived for several years in Algeria. He also provided illustrations to "L'Afrique du Nord française dans l'histoire" (1937). Many of Irriera's works are now in the collection of the Musée de l'Armée, Paris.
