The lower image shows a camel train heavily guarded by horsemen with spears. From an English edition of Jean Baptiste Léonard Durand's 'Voyage au Senegal': 'A Voyage to Senegal; or, Historical, Philosophical, and Political Memoirs, Relative to the Discoveries, Establishments, and Commerce of Europeans in the Atlantic Ocean, from Cape Blanco to the River of Sierra Leone'. Durand was a director of the commercial 'Compagnie du Sénégal'.
