The Lord Mayor Requests the Honor of [blank] Company to meet the Most Noble Marquis Cornwallis,at the Mansion House, to Dinner, on Saturday, the 5th of April, 1794, at 5 o'Clock precisely.

Uncompleted ticket/invitation to an audience with Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquess Cornwallis (1738 - 1805) at the Mansion House, City of London. Engraving, 195 x 245mm. 7¾ x 9¾". Lower left corner chipped (detached on admission?).
Lettered to a circular cartouche framed by laurel leaves and fronds, surmounted by the coat of arms of the City of London. Four allegorical female figures to four corners. Cornwallis was second-in-command of British forces during the American War of Independence, and surrendered to George Washington at Yorktown in 1781, effectively bringing the conflict to a close.
