View of Norris Castle in East Cowes from the hillside, with two women kneeling at a basket and wheelbarrow at centre foreground, and a woman bending down behind at left. There is a spade lying on the ground, another leaning against a tree next to baskets at far left; peacocks at right, and figures walking on a path to the castle in middle ground. Boats are seen on the river in the background at left. The castle was designed by James Wyatt for Lord Henry Seymour. From William Daniell's 'A Voyage Round Great Britain', a series of 308 aquatints published in eight volumes between 1814-1825, described by R.V. Tooley as 'the most important colour plate book on British Topography'.
