A Tongan double pirogue (flat-bottomed boat) with a platform. Tonga was named the Friendly Islands by Cook because of his reception there. From the English edition of Jacques Labillardière's ''An Account of A Voyage in search of La Perouse... Under the Command of Rear-Admiral Bruni d'Entrecasteaux'', an expedition that crossed the South Pacific, visiting Australia, New Zealand and the East Indies between 1791-3.
