Extremely scarce original printed wrapper only (lacking contents), oblong 4to (305 x 240mm, 12 x 9½"); letterpress on blue rag paper, decorative woodcut vignette and title border. Extremities a little tatty (as normal), small chips etc.; partially torn at centrefold.
This wrapper originally contained four pages of text and six engraved plates by Georg Vogel after Robert Clevely (British, 1747 - 1809). It was a first edition pictorial supplement to the German translation of Arthur Phillip's (1738 - 1814) ‘Voyage to Botany Bay’ (first published 1789), issued by the same publishers. Phillip landed in Australia at Port Jackson in January 1788 where he founded the first convict settlement, which later became the city of Sydney. He was the first Governor of New South Wales.
