Samuel Jackson Pratt (1749-1814), author and poet who wrote under the pseudonym Courtney Melmoth. His most famous works are 'Emma Corbett, or the Miseries of Civil War' (1780), the first English novel to address the subject of the American Revolution. and 'Sympathy: A Poem' (1788).
