A brightly-coloured tropical bird sits on a perch to the left and cat laps up milk on the floor, which a girl pour into an overflowing cup. Plate 16 of a series of 20 'Black Jokes', originally published the year that the Slavery Abolition Act came into force. It was advertised as 'A Series of Laughable Caricatures on the March of Manners amongst Blacks'.
