London, March, 1800. [Pub J. Carpenter & Co., Old Bond Street, 1799-1801.]
Hand coloured etching, 230 x 180mm. 9 x 7". Some offsetting.
Military uniform plate; a cavalry officer on horseback in a landscape. The 5th (or Royal Irish) Regiment of Dragoons served in Ireland and were active during the Irish Rebellion of 1798. However, they were accused of treachery; their accusers claimed their ranks had been infiltrated by rebels. This accusation appears to have been false, but nevertheless they were disbanded at Chatham in 1799. Inset of the regimental flag upper left. From Britih Military Library or Journal.
Ogilby: 134, 20.
