Captain James Cook (1728 - 1779) in boat with small party of sailors coming ashore at Eua Island, Tonga; islanders greeting the Europeans, with HMS Resolution in background. Numbered 'No.LIV' lower right; from Cook's 'A voyage towards the South Pole, and round the World...' William Hodges (1744 - 1797) joined Cook's second expedition to the South Pacific as a draughtsman 1772-75 and was employed by the Admiralty in finishing his drawings, and superintending the engraving of them, upon his return.
