Oval portrait of Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (AD 12-41), after Titian. Nephew and adopted grandson of emperor Tiberius, he was nicknamed Caligula (Little Boots) by his father Germanicus's troops. Apparently his reign started well but when he became authoritarian and cruel he was assassinated. The 'Encyclopedia Londonensis' was published from 1796 to 1829, compiled by John Wilkes, edited by John Jones.
