An oval portrait of Gaius Julius Caesar (100-44 BC). His success as a general was responsible for the recreation of the Roman Republic as an Empire. The 'Encyclopedia Londonensis' was published from 1796 to 1829, compiled by John Wilkes, edited by John Jones.
