John Kyrle (1637-1724) was an English philanthropist, known as "the Man of Ross", remembered for his time in Ross-on-Wye. He took a huge interest in the development of Ross; in the education of the children and in improving the town. He was behind the establishment of 'The Prospect', a public garden. His main focus throughout his life was to better the life of working people and encouraging self-respect.
