Sir John Hare (1844-1921) was an English actor and manager of the Garrick Theatre in London from 1889 to 1895. He started his stage career in Liverpool in 1864, before moving to London and acting with the Bancrofts at the Prince of Wales Theatre. He was famous particulary in T. W. Robertson's comedies, and in 1875 he was made manager of the Court Theatre. After leaving the Garrick Theatre he took the Globe Theatre in 1897. He was knighted in 1907 and retired from the stage in 1912. Hanging on the wall behind him is a print of Garrick after Reynolds, probably by Thomas Watson.
