Moritz Hauptmann (1792-1868) was a German music theorist, teacher and composer. Although all other pursuits gave place to his music, he did spend time with mathematical studies and employment as an architect. It wasn't until 1842 that his time finally came when he was appointed Kantor of the Thomanerchor at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig (as post previoulsy occupied by Johann Sebastian Bach); and also appointed professor of music theory at the conservatoire founded by Felix Mendelssohn.
From the Collection of J.S. Bumpus.
