Tombs near Jerusalem. Luigi Mayer (1755-1803), was a Italian-German artist commissioned who travelled extensively through the Ottoman Empire between 1776-1794 as one of the earliest and most important late 18th century European painters of the Ottoman Empire. His 3-volume work, "Views in Egypt, Palestine and Other Parts of the Ottoman Empire", contained 96 aquatints by Thomas Milton.
