A personal invitation to a lecture given by Dr. David Hosack (1769-1835); a leading physician, botanist and mineralogist, who had strong ties with Princeton and Columbia. He studied medicine in New York, and then in Philadelphia. He went on to study the same again with botany in Edinburgh and then mineralogy in London. He subsequentely was made professor of botany and material medicine at Columbia College, and professor of the theory and practice of physic at the College of Physicians and Surgeons. His portraits hangs in Princeton University, where he was made and honorary LL.D. in 1818.
