With etching of windmills in a landscape, probably by the exhibiting artist, Maris. The Goupil Gallery ceased to exist sometime in the early 1930s. James Maris refers to Jacob Maris (1837-1899) a Dutch painter who, along with his brothers William and Matthew, belonged to what was known as the Hague School of painters. In his early life he painted domestic scenes and interiors, but it was as a landscape painted that he excelled. He exhibited in the Royal Academy, London, in Edinburgh, Paris, Brussels and Holland, and in various private collections.
