Rudolph Jordan (1810-1887) was a German painter. He became known as a marine and genre painter, studying also at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Here he is pictured in his art studio, studiously labouring over some fine details on his canvas. He is seated at an easel, behind which is another large canvas with a landscape and people in the foreground.
