William Knapp (1698-1768), composer, born in Wareham, Dorsetshire; he was the parish clerk at St. John's Church in Poole for four decades. He trained choirs of Dorset churches and published collections of church music. He works include: "A Sett of New Psalms and Anthems in Four Parts," 1738, and "New Church Melody," 1753.
