The Farmer Come to Town on a Foolish Errand.

Coloured mezzotint. Fantastically bright 18th century colour. 292 x 248mm. 11½ x 9¾". Trimmed to the image top and sides, and to just below the title at bottom, losing lines of verse. A lot of creasing and rubbing to the image and loss of colour.
A young farmer has come to town looking for his love Fanny. He tells his story to two ladies in bonnets and shawls and a seated female apple-seller with a ballad in her hand and other notices pinned on the wall beside her, who all look sympathetic
