Charles West Cope (1811-1890), painter of historical, literary and genre subjects, studied in Paris and first exhibited in the Royal Academy in 1833. He won a prize in a competition in 1843 to decorate the Houses of Parliament, where he complete several commissions. He was one of the founding members of the Etching Club.
