George's Delight or Neck or Nothing.
Pub as the Act directs by M Darly 39 Strand Apl. 1. 1774.
Etching, 170 x 245mm. 6¾ x 9¾".
Two men ride to the right. The one in front is galloping, fashionably dressed with a cockaded hat; in his left hand is a cane. The man behind wears a round cap, and is perhaps the servant of the other. His horse appears to be walking. A wall, above which rise trees, behind the riders. Racing interest. From an album of caricatures published by Mary Darly dated January 1776. It seems that her husband Matthew made the plates. Numbered 'V.3' upper left and '11' upper right.
BM Satires: 5266.
[Ref: 14509] £280.00
