Pisanio has shown her the letter instructing him to do so, believing that her husband has been led to order her death by some woman - but he refuses. Quotations either side of title. After John Hoppner (1758 - 1810), for a series of scenes from Shakespeare plays after paintings in Boydell's 'Shakespeare Gallery', which opened in 1789 in Pall Mall.
