Intimate portrait study of James Northcote (1746 - 1831), painter; pupil and biographer of Sir Joshua Reynolds. He was known for his dignified portraits in the Reynolds tradition, but also produced grandiose history paintings, many for Boydell's Shakespeare Gallery. After Prince Hoare (1755 - 1834), painter and dramatist, son of William Hoare.
