A satirical scene showing a well-dressed dandy walking along the street avoiding puddles. In the background a carriage labelled 'Clapham to London' drives by and a man on the carriage yells towards the dandy. One of a set of three, the other two are: 'The cut celestial', and 'The cut direct!' BM Satire 15484.

A caricature portrait of Captain de la Brosse, a French soldier nicknamed 'L’incendiaire' (arsonist) for setting fire to Haguenau (then a German city) on 10th February 1677, during the Franco-Dutch War (1672-78). He is depicted with long hair, wearing a hat, lace cravat, sash and jacket, his face seemingly blackened. The letterpress mocks his appearance. De La Brosse was killed in a melée with Imperial troops soon after. BM Bb,6.278.
