Two famous scenes of the British settlement of Australia. In 'News from Home' three European hunters sit in a ramshackle cabin with two Aboriginies, surrounded by dogs. One reads a letter from home, another is opening a letter and the third reads newspaper with a report about the 1851 Great Exhibition. On a perch is a cockatoo. In 'News from Australia' an old cobbler and his wife (in the UK) listen whilst their daughter reads a letter, in which was enclosed a £100 note, probably earned in the Gold Rush. A poster pinned to the wall reads 'Emigration to Australia the Ship Hope'.
