Rare aquatint with hand colour on both sides of the sheet. 200 x 325mm (8 x 12¾"), watermarked 'Russell & Co 1799'. Crack in left image, trimmed into plate at bottom, crack in platemark at top, creasing and soiling. Messy.
Two scenes of ruins on on one plate, apparently designed to be separated. They are coloured front and rear to create an effect when held up to a light source. Transformation image.

Key to an aquatint view of Westminster and the City of London from Islington by The Rev. John Swertner (1746-1813). Swertner was a Moravian Minister who, when not producing views such as this, was a prolific writer of hymns.

A rare transparency item showing dramatic view of an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the Bay of Naples. Boats and lighthouse in foreground. After William Orme (1771-1854; active), brother of Edward and Daniel. Charles Turner mentions engraving this plate in his diaries.
