Plate from, 'Sveriges atliga och giftiga svampar (Sweden's Edible and Poisonous Mushrooms)', published by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm between 1860 and 1866. Elias Magnus Fries (1794–1878), one of the foremost mycologists of the 19th century, produced this landmark work as both a scientific guide and visual reference for mushroom identification, along with Elias Pettersson, Peter Akerlund (1835-71) and Axel Jakob Salmson (1819–74).
