Elias Magnus Fries (1794–1878), one of the foremost mycologists of the 19th century, produced this landmark work as both a scientific guide and visual reference for mushroom identification, along with Elias Pettersson, Peter Akerlund (1835-71) and Axel Jakob Salmson (1819–74).
