Large tree in foreground, gardener at work, buildings in the background. The tree is reputed to have been planted by Dr Robert Uvedale (1642–1722) (who lived at the Palace for many years) in 1670, the plant being brought from the Lebanon by a former pupil.

Two maritime scenes on one plate. The upper scene shows three ships at sea with depictions of Sargossa and Trombas seaweeds, as reported off South Africa by Cornelis de Houtman in 1595-1597). A rare etching with stipple, roulette and rocker work. 400 x 500mm (15¾ x 19¾"). Trimmed to plate, some surface wear and crease top left. Repaired tears in title.
One of the first prints commemorating prize cattle, a Teeswater bull with its owner, John Gibbons (publisher of the print) and a fighting cock, which apparently once fought with the bull as stake. Lennox-Boyd states the background is St James's Park, during the time the Ox was on show. Stubbs, who was recommended to Gibbons by Joseph Banks, was paid £64 12s 6d for the painting, which is now in the Walker Art Gallery; the engraver and publisher, George Townley Stubbs, was paid 100 guineas (£105). Ex collection of the Hon. Christopher Lennox-Boyd.

An illustration of the American Cowslip, a member of the genus 'Dodecatheon'. It was published in Dr Robert John Thornton's 'Temple of Flora' 1799-1807, considered by many to be the greatest English colour-plate flower book, and the first series of flower prints to show the plant within a habitat, in this case with ships in the background.
