A half-length portrait in oval of Marie Antoinette (1755-93), published as a pair with a portrait of Louis the XVI, shortly after he was guillotined during the French Revolution. A sketch of a 12th century watchtower, a rare surviving building of the mediæval state of Volga Bulgaria, which was ended by the Mongol invasion in the 13th century. It shows the tower before extensive restoration by a local merchant in 1867, which including re-roofing it and preventing entry. The merchant's son was Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin (1832-98), a famous painter who drew this sketch. Underneath is a sketch map of the area.
