Illustrated title and seven plates (complete), all tinted lithographs with hand colour. Each sheet c.385 x 485mm (15¼ x 19"), very large margins. Mount burn around images, one plate trimmed to image and new margin added.
A rare series of eight views of Fleetwood, a fishing village just to the north of Blackpool, recording of the area before the urban planning of Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood and Decimus Burton, begun 1836, regarded as the first of the Victorian era. Herdman (1805-82) was a self-taught painter who painted over 2000 watercolours on the environs of Liverpool. He exhibited at the RA from 1834-1861. Rare: not listed in Abbey.
