James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth (1649-1685), born in Rotterdam was the eldest of Charles II's illegitimate sons. He led an attempted rebellion against James II in a bid for the throne after the death of his father. The rebellion was unsuccessful and he was beheaded.
