A collection of eight illustrations from ''Domestic Manners of the Americans'' by British writer Frances Milton Trollope. Titles include: 'Box at the Theatre'; 'The Solemnity of Justice'; 'Debate Between Own and Campbell'; 'Wood Cutters Cabin on the Mississippi'; 'Cincinnati Ball Room'; 'Member of Congress'; 'Settlement of Nashoba &c'; 'Ancient and Modern Republics'. Trollope wrote about her travels throughout the USA and the people she met, she was horrified by the egalitarian middle class, slavery and the lack of manners and learning. Mrs Trollope wrote strongly against slavery the illustration 'Settlement of Nashoba' shows the Nashoba Commune of ex-slaves set up by Frances Wright in Tennessee which Frances Trollope visited, she was horrified by the primitive conditions.
