Josef Chlopicki (1771-1854) the Polish general who was involved in fighting in Europe at the time of Napoleon and later. He was present at all engagements fought during 1792-1794 and was publicly complimented by General Nicolas Oudinot for his extraordinary valour. He distinguished himself at the battles of Modena, Busano, Casablanca and Ponto. In 1814, Tsar Alexander I made him a General in the new Polish army with the rank of a general officer.

He was a close friend and admirer of Thomas Jefferson, and as Supreme Commander of the Polish National Armed Forces, led the 1794 'Kosciuszko Uprising'. He was considered a hero for his role in the American Revolution and for his leadership of a national insurrection in his homeland.

Oval portrait of Jerzy Sebastian Lubomirski (1616-67), a Polish noble and able commander in wars against the Ukrainian Cossacks, Sweden, Transylvania and Muscovy (1648-60). However he is best remembered for the Lubomirski Rebellion (1665-6), which successfully prevented reforms of the Commonwealth, but caused him to be exiled. The Italian text suggests this is an illustration to one of the works of historian Galeazzo Gualdo Priorato (1606-78).

A portrait of Kazimierz Malachowski of Gryf (1765-1845), a general of both the armed forces of Duchy of Warsaw and the Kingdom of Poland. After fighting with the French during the Napoleonic Wars, he is best remembered as one of the last Commanders-in-Chief of the failed November Uprising, assuming command shortly after the disastrous battle of Warsaw in 1831. Michal Kleofas Oginski (1765-1833), was a Polish and later Russian statesman, insurrectionary and composer, best known for his polonaise “Pozegnanie Ojczyzny” (Farewell to the Fatherland). He was also ambassador and Paymaster General of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. This section of manuscript is not necessarily a part of the Pozegnanie Ojczyzny, although he did composer 24 polonaises of pianoforte. Published in Ackermann's Repository of Arts.
