He had to flee to Wales to avoid mobs, but in 1800 he reappeared as an elocution teacher (in practice a combination of speech therapist and rhetoric teacher). A poet friend of Wordsworth & Coleridge, he was the first to publish a book on speech therapy "The Legopaedis".

A satire with demons attacking the base of a Corinthian column on which is a vignette scene of a man (Robert Walpole?) leading a deputation to present a paper to a seated angel. In the angel's right hand is a scroll with 'Volventur Sœcular' written on it. The base of the column is dated 'MDCCXXXI' (1731). The inference is a mob attacking the status quo.
