Constable's tower and gateway, which was inserted into the curtain wall by Hubert de Burgh between 1221 and 1227 to replace the old north entrance. Harry George Webb (1882-1914) was a landscape and architectural painter and etcher, who exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Etchers. He set up the Caradoc Press in Chiswick in 1899 with his wife Hesba.

Donkey walks on the seashore, farmers with horse and cart in the field, cannons above the field. A large crowd gathered in the centre, yachts and ships at sea, a steamer close to the shoreline. Waterloo Crescent, along the Sea Front at Dover. The decision to start building on the shingle bank was taken by the Harbour Commissioners in 1816 and the houses along Waterloo Crescent were commenced in 1834.

A detailed chart of the Kent coast from Dover Castle to Margate, orientated with north to the right. An important feature is Goodwin Sands, the 10-mile-long sandbank responsible for the loss of over 2,000 ships. This map was first published by Samuel Thornton in 1723; this example was published by Mount & Page in their re-issue of the Greenvile Collins's 'Great Britain Coasting Pilot'.

Durdham Down has an impressive view of the winding River Avon and the Welsh mountains in the distance. Along with Clifton Down, it formed 400 acres of grassland on the edge of Bristol up to the Avon Gorge. Whereas Clifton had been bought by the Society of Merchant Venturers in 1686, Durdham was still part of the manorial estate of Henbury in the late 18th century. This was until 1861 when it was purchased for the use of the citizens of Bristol. After and from the plate first published in 1756 by Thomas Smith of Derby ( c.1720 - 1767), father of J.R. Smith.

A view of the rustic Wear, trees on both sides. On November 17 1771 torrential rain caused the Wear to rise 8 feet above the previously recorded high point and to sweep away Prebends Bridge at Durham and three of the 14 arches of Elvet Bridge. The dedication is to John Egerton, Bishop of Durham 1771 to 1787.

In 1843 Charles Robert Leslie published his 'Memoirs of John Constable Esq. R.A'. He obtained directly from the Constable family 186 sets of 22 images of the Various Subjects of Landscape in return for 30 copies of his book. This mezzotint is one of those; "see Tate John Constable, David Lucas".

After being requisitioned by the War Office during the Second World War, the building suffered many years of neglect until it was demolished in 1963. From William Daniell's 'A Voyage Round Great Britain', a series of 308 aquatints published in eight volumes between 1814-1825, described by R.V. Tooley as 'the most important colour plate book on British Topography'.

Originally known as Egham Lock, it was rebuilt in 1866 and re-named after the first lockkeeper Charlie Bell and is now called the Bell Weir Lock. One of the pioneers of the 19th century etching revival, Sir Francis Seymour Haden (1818-1910) married the sister of James McNeill Whistler and became an important influence on the American-born etcher's style

Two views of Eltham Palace, then in rural Kent (now southeast London), childhood home of Henry VIII. In 1995 its management was handed over to English Heritage which restored the building in 1999 and opened it to the public. After Heneage Legge (1788 - 1844), amateur etcher; son of George, 3rd Earl of Dartmouth. He died the year before these prints were published.
