In 1707 she signed the Act of Union, uniting England and Scotland to create the Kingdom of Great Britain; Anne's fervent support for the Union contributed significantly to its acceptance by both kingdoms. Meanwhile, her staunch support of the duke of Marlborough in the face of opposition made it possible for him to use his skills to re-establish the balance of power in Europe. During Anne's reign neither political party triumphed; the final victory of the whigs came only after her death, with the reign of George I (whose Hanoverian succession Anne supported). The next state is also Cromwell, followed by one headless, two of Louis XIV, a Cromwell, a Charles I and finally Cromwell again.
