A sleeping Antiope, daughter of the river god Asopus, is approached by the god Zeus in the form of a satyr. Several cherubs play amongst the tree tops while an eagle, the symbol of Zeus, holds thunderbolts in its mouth behind the couple. No. 113 in Green's Catalogue of his Dusseldorf Gallery Exhibition.

Mezzotint, printed in colours and hand finished, scarce. 640 x 425mm (25¼ x 15¾"), watermarked 'HS & S 1822' very large margins. Nicks in edges of wide margins.
The devil, dressed as a Franciscan monk with bare, clawed feet, holds out bread to Jesus Christ. Valentine Green (1739-1813) was granted exclusive rights to publish engravings of the pictures in the Duke of Bavaria's Düsseldorf gallery in 1789. After publishing more than twenty plates the siege of Düsseldorf by the French put an end to the project and caused him losses that contributed to his bankruptcy in 1798. His son Rupert (c.1767-1804) worked with him between 1785 and 1798.

Domestic scene in stylised Eastern setting; mother sitting to front and sewing, watching her sleeping young child beside her, old couple in doorway at right; oval format. [&] A circular frame with a little girl in a plain bonnet and cape, sitting in profile to left on a path with a basket of chickens beside her, a tree and high ground behind to the right, a town in a landscape below to the left.

A full-length portrait of Charlotte Talbot (1754-1804), wife of John Chetwynd Talbot, 1st Earl Talbot of Henshal. She stands in a classical temple, with altar and incense burner, a statue of Athena in gardens behind. The painting, now in Tate Britain, was exhibited at the R.A. in 1782 as merely a 'Portrait of a Lady'; this fully-titled mezzotint was advertised by Green as number ‘XI’ in his 'Series of Beauties of the Present Age, engraved from pictures painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds'.
