Influenced by Girtin's watercolour style, Delamotte was one of a group of landscape artists also including Constable and Turner, who took to making oil sketches in the open. Previously Delamotte had spent four years living in Oxford, also as a drawing master, and several of Delamotte's earlier prints show views in and around Oxford.

[Thirty etchings by William Delamotte]
[Thirty etchings by William Delamotte]
Book, 4to (340 x 250mm, 13½ x 9¾). Green morocco, with gilt border decoration and gilt stamped banded spine inscribed 'Etchings by Delamotte'. Gilt stamped cover inscribed 'Royal Military College / Presented for Attention to, and Progress In, Landscape Drawing' with royal coat of arms on front and back cover. Ms. inside cover identifying Gentleman Cadet Thomas H. Lovett as recipient, November 1834. Etchings printed c.1834 (first published 1816-7).
Two sets of topographical etchings in the vicinity of Sandhurst, Berkshire (of twenty and ten plates respectively) by William Delamotte (1775-1863), landscape artist. From 1812 Delamotte was a drawing master at the Royal Military College in Sandhurst. He was still teaching there in 1834, when this volume was presented to a cadet for his achievements in landscape drawing, so it is likely that Delamotte was personally involved with the production and presentation of the volume.

[19 military subjects by and after Charles Parrocel]
[19 military subjects by and after Charles Parrocel]
Parrossel Pinx Sculp
A Paris chez M.me Marel Rue St Jacques 39 [c.1740]
Nineteen etchings with original stitching, each sheet 305 x 225mm (12 x 9). Mint condition, very large margins. Mint condition.
Volume of military prints designed by Charles Parrocel (1688-1752), twelve of which are etched by J.G. Wille and the remainder by Parrocel himself. The set appears to be made up of prints from two different publications, 'Recueil de 19 Planches Différentes études de Soldats' (etched by Parrocel) and 'Reitres et Lansquenets' (etched by Wille after Parrocel). Like his father Joseph, Parrocel was principally a painter of battles and hunts. He was present at several battles during the War of the Austrian Succession which he intended to depict in a series of pictures for the chateau of Choisy (although he only completed two, now at Versailles).

[Eleven Illustrations to Schiller's 'Pegasus im Joche' with frontispiece]
[Eleven Illustrations to Schiller's 'Pegasus im Joche' with frontispiece] Umgriffe zu Schiller's Pegasus im Joche uebst Andentungen von Moritz Retzsch.
Stuttgart und Augsburg, Verlag der J.B. Cotta'schen Buchhandlung [...]
Twelve etched plates in original wrappers, 240 x 330mm (9½ x 13"). Foxing.
Set of illustrations to Friedrich Schiller's poem 'Pegasus in Harness' ('Pegasus im Joche'), etched by Moritz Retzsch (1779-1857), German printmaker best known for his illustrations of Schiller, Goethe and other writers (Goethe like Retzsch's illustrations to 'Faust' more than any others). Retzsch's work was more successful in England than in his native country- it has been claimed that his distinctive outline etching style was more popular than that of comparable work by John Flaxman, and that he inspired writers and artists including Byron, Shelley and D.G. Rossetti. The success of Retzsch's work in England let to him producing the eight-volume series 'Retsch's Outlines to Shakespeare (1828-46).

Loyal Volunteers Of London & Environs, Infantry & Cavalry, in their respective Uniforms. Representing the whole of the Manual, Platoon, & Funeral Exercise, In 87 Plates.
Designed & Etch'd by T. Rowlandson. and Dedicated by Permission to his Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester.
[London: Rudolph Ackermann, n.d., plates dated 1798 - 1799.]
Subscriber's copy, with large 4to, original marbled boards, rebacked, uncut; pp. viii incl. dedication, plus list of subscribers & foreign subscribers, and contents; hand-coloured etched titlepage & 86 hand-coloured aquatint plates, many heightened with gold or silver, total 87 as called for. Binding worn, plates generally good with well-preserved vivid colour, occasionally stained. Some offsetting of image to facing text.
The volunteer corps were established as a direct response to the perceived imminent danger of invasion by Napoleon's forces. A volunteer from each London regiment is placed by Rowlandson in a particular drill position, with an etched description below. The corresponding adjacent text sheet gives a brief history and description of the composition of the corps, and lists the commanding officers. Arguably the greatest of all military costume books, no mere record of uniforms but an important social document in its own right that should be viewed in the context it was published - a time of great national peril with Britain under threat of invasion from France.

Occasional offsetting and spotting. Includes an amateur watercolour portrait after Worlidge. Some sheets on watermarked 1823 Whatman paper.
A posthumous collection of prints by Thomas Worlidge (1700-66), known as the 'English Rembrandt' for his etching technique and fondness for copying subjects by Rembrandt and his contemporaries. The subjects here include several Rembrandt copies and other Dutch genre scenes, along with religious subjects, portraits and oddities such as a camel, écorché figure, and portraits of 'Mahomet, a Turkish Merchant' and his companion 'Hamet'. Born in Peterborough, Worlidge was a pupil of Alessandro Maria Grimaldi, whose daughter Arabella he married. His widow issued his plates in 1766 and 1767 after his death with the numbers in the corners, but very few impressions were issued and sold by Worlidge during his lifetime.
