A cook to the Turkish Sultan. A seraglio (also serraglio) is the sequestered living quarters used by wives and concubines in a Turkish household. After Francis Smith (fl.1760s) painter, apparently born in Naples, where he painted topographical views for the tourist trade. He accompanied Frederick Calvert, 6th Baron Baltimore (1731 - 1771, named in inscription) to the Levant 1763-4, then exhibited in London 1768-73.
