From the series 'Running at Newmarket' that includes 'Broad Mares with their Foles', 'Catching the Colts', 'Shoeing, &c. the Gavison, and Villar', 'Bridling, Saddling, Breaking, and Training' and 'Matchem & Trajan running a Race at Newmarket,' according to Siltzer. However John and Josiah Boydell have called this series 'Six Views of Training Horses' according to their catalogue 'An alphabetical catalogue of plates, engraved by the most esteemed artists ...'

Fine engraving. 222 x 152mm. 8¾ x 6". Very large margins.
James Foster (1697-1753) was an English Baptist minister; he was a nonconformist. He attended Joseph Hallett's Presbyterian academy where he met other radicals, including Hubert Stogdon, and achieved a reputation for rejecting human authority in matters of religious controversy, belief, and practical piety, privileging what he believed to be the indubitable consequences of reason and argument over passive faith and received wisdom.

John Gay (1685-1732), poet and playwright. A member of the Scriblerus Club in London along with Pope, Swift, and other writers, Gay is best-known for 'The Beggar's Opera', which was produced almost every year until the 1880s, and in the twentieth century supplied the plot for Brecht and Weils 'Die Dreigroschenoper' ('The Threepenny Opera'). Engraved from a portrait by Dresden-born miniaturist C.F. Zincke (1684?-1767), a favourite of George II

English clergyman and antiquarian collector of books and manuscripts Richard Rawlinson (1690 - 1755). He bequeathed his collection to the Bodleian Library, Oxford. Bust portrait in an oval frame directed slightly to the left, head turned towards left shoulder, glancing towards the viewer. He is wearing a scholar's gown, bands and a chin-length wig with tight curls.
