A bacchanale, depicting a musical drunken revel; Bacchus sits on a goat which struggles to bear his weight, supported on either side by satyrs and children. A naked woman plays a tambourine in front and a second plays pipes behind; a third woman picks grapes to the right. An allegory of astronomy in an oval design (possibly a fragment or from a book?). A female figure in robes, left breast exposed, leaning back on to a pile of books looking through a telescope, surrounded by four putti, one of whom pulls back a curtain to reveal the French royal observatory at Versailles in the background. Another putti points to 'Picart Petit' inscribed on a scroll in the woman's left hand.
