A Welsh congregation leaving church, apparently after a wedding, both men and women wearing the 'stove-pipe' Welsh hat popular in north-west Wales. A watercolour of this scene in the National Library of Wales has been attributed to Richard Dadd (1817-86), famed for his paintings of fairy scenes and for killing his father, an act that resulted in him being sent to Broadmoor mental hospital. See NLW PB07218 for the watercolour.
