Engraving, platemark 440 x 505mm (17¼ x 19½"). Creasing.
The Middle Temple, completed in 1573, is perhaps the finest example of an Elizabethan Hall in Britain. This print shows its double hammer beam roof to good advantage. The High Table, made from a single oak, is believed to have been given to the Inn by Elizabeth I. Engraved and published by James Peller Malcolm (1767-1815), an American artist who moved to England in around 1789.

Malcolm Osborne [1880-1963] was born in Frome, Somerset. He studied at Bristol School of Art and the Royal College of Art, London, under Sir Frank Short. When Short retired in 1924 he succeeded him as head of the etching and engraving school. Osborne produced just over a hundred prints, including British and European land and townscapes.
