Half length portrait in uniform of Prince Josef Poniatowski (1763-1813), nephew of the last king of Poland, Stanislaw August Poniatowski. After the Partitions of Poland he fought for Napoleon, who he considered most likely to reunite his country. During the four-day Battle of Leipzig he was promoted to Marshal of the French Army, but was killed covering the French retreat.
