A portrait of Archibald Acheson, 2nd Earl of Gosford (1776 - 1849). Acheson was a British politician who served as Lieutenant-Governor of Lower Canada and Governor General of British North America in the 19th century. In 1835, he became Governor General of British North America and instructed to appease the reformists, led by Louis-Joseph Papineau, without giving them any real power. The following year Lord Gosford learned of the planned Lower Canada Rebellion and had many of Papineau's followers arrested, although Papineau himself escaped to the United States. The next month, he issued a reward for the capture of Papineau, and declared martial law in Lower Canada.

María Felicia García Sitches (Malibran) (1808-1836), seen holding opera glass, she was one of the most famous singers of the 19th century. She was born in Paris, into a famous Spanish musical family. Malibran sung first in Italy, then in New York (where her father introduced Italian opera to the New World) before returning to France in 1827. The most charismatic singer of her epoch, Malibran sung frequently in England, and it was in Manchester that she died aged 28 (the cause of death was unclear).

María Felicia García Sitches (Malibran) (1808-1836), seen holding opera glass, she was one of the most famous singers of the 19th century. She was born in Paris, into a famous Spanish musical family. Malibran sung first in Italy, then in New York (where her father introduced Italian opera to the New World) before returning to France in 1827. The most charismatic singer of her epoch, Malibran sung frequently in England, and it was in Manchester that she died aged 28 (the cause of death was unclear).

A double portrait of Spanish mezzo-soprano Maria Malibran (1806-1836): on the left she is shown as a spectator at the opera; on the right she is shown in her dramatic costume as the old figure of Fidelma. Chalon writes 'After playing Fidelma in Cimarosa's opera Il Matrimonio Segreto Malibran went into a Pit Box to see the Ballet, or rather to afford the Public a better opportunity of appreciating her powers of transformation'. The public were scandalised at the 22 year old Malibran playing the aged figure.

Rubini was one of four international singers who, along with Guilia Grisi, Antonio Tamburini and Luigi Lablache, was known as one of the "Puritani Quartet". The group acquired the name on account of the large quantity of performances the group performed together which included a private performance for Crown Princess Victoria on her 15th birthday. The manor of Worlingham was purchased by Robert Sparrow, the elder, on June 23rd, 1755. He arrived as a wealthy property owner from Kettleburgh where the family had resided as landowners since the 17th century. Sparrow the elder became connected with the area of Lowestoft through a commercial interest in 'fish houses' and owned a 'summer property', called Cliff Cottage, sited at the northern edge of the town. Cliff Cottage was probably an artisan's house, which was gentrified by Robert Sparrow II at the turn of the 18th century. By the end of the 19th century the building, considerably modified and enlarged, became known locally as 'Sparrows Nest'.

Taglioni was one of the most celebrated ballerinas of the romantic ballet, and cultivated her skill primarily at Her Majesty's Theatre in London, and at the Théâtre de l'Académie Royale de Musique of the Paris Opera Ballet. She later took a three-year contract in Saint Petersburg with the Imperial Ballet.
