Rare coloured etching. Sheet 195 x 245mm (7¾ x 9¾"). Trimmed within plate; Landmann's name in old ink mss. in inscription area. Staining.
Officers preening in their dress uniforms. George Thomas Landmann, a Royal Engineer, was in Iberia between 1805-12, fighting in the Peninsular War. His 'Historical, Military and Picturesque Obervations of Portugal', containing 75 plates, was described by Tooley as 'the most beautiful illustrated English book on Portugal of the period'.
